Vintage Summer Of 2017!

Vintage Summer Of 2017!

Well what a fantastic season it has been! Everyone here at Vintage Wedding DJ is delighted to have been involved in so many stunning weddings and events throughout the summer. These have ranged from big formal celebrations at famous and historic venues to smaller more intimate affairs in beautiful settings. Huge love and thanks to all the fabulous couples that have celebrated their big day; I can honestly say that I’m extremely proud of every single event that we’ve been part of. We have had some incredible parties, with hilarious guests and so many poignant family moments and we’ve come away feeling that we’ve made lots of good friends along the way. So may we raise a glass to each and everyone of you and wish you a lifetime of love, happiness and adventure!

So here’s a little taste of what we’ve been up to ………

Victoria & Iain – Wistanstow Village Hall, Shropshire

We had an absolutely fabulous time with Victoria and Iain in May. They worked so hard to turn the village hall into a stunning wedding location and it was truly up there with all the best venues I’ve ever been to. All their guests fully embraced the party theme and had so much fun! The music varied from vintage jazz and swing throughout the day to lots of funk, soul and party tunes in the evening. It’s not one that I usually play, but one of the highlights was definitely playing S Club 7’s ‘Reach’ for the ever so enthusiastic derby uni girls!

The wedding room

I was particularly pleased with how beautiful the stage looked:

And they said…
“Throughout the day we had nothing but compliments about David and his music selection, and when the evening came, at no point was the dance floor empty – the best testament to any good DJ I think!”

You can read Victoria’s full review on google here.

Susan & Mike – Liver Building, Liverpool

It’s impossible to find a more iconic building in Liverpool than the world famous Liver Building and so it was a real pleasure to help Susan & Mike celebrate their wedding day there in July. They treated their family and friends to a wonderful vintage themed day, with a sophisticated vintage afternoon tea accompanied by a jazz & swing soundtrack and they completed the day with an enjoyable evening for all afterwards.

And they said…
“My new wife and I are so happy we found David and booked him for our vintage style wedding, we could not have chosen a more perfect, professional or nicer person to help us through our big day.”

You can read Mike’s full review on facebook here.

Anna & Andrew Farish – Hampton Court Palace, London

It would be impossible to do a roundup of the summer without mentioning another historic location that I played at in August; with it’s illustrious history going right back to Cardinal Wolsey and King Henry VIII, it was a great honour to be involved with a wedding at Hampton Court Palace. Anna and Andrew celebrated their day with entertainment from a live pianist and then I delivered an upbeat mix of electro-swing and up to date hits to keep the party going until midnight.

Jessica & Steve Ruscoe – Sweeney Hall, Oswestry

We had an absolutely fabulous day with Jessica and Steve in May. They had perfect weather throughout the day and I was delighted to see that they and their loved ones certainly know how to party come the evening!

I was very pleased with how my speakers complimented their outdoor ceremony:

Musings of a Vintage Wedding DJ…

Musings of a Vintage Wedding DJ…

Well it’s a been a stunning ride; today is my birthday and I thought it was the perfect time to take stock of how Vintage Wedding DJ has grown over the last 3 years.

The Beginning

The concept for creating bespoke wedding entertainment with a vintage twist grew from our successful Electro-Swing Ball events where we realised that vintage music could unite all age groups within an audience. Combining a wide knowledge of music of all genres from old to new with an eagerness to give each couple the best experience that I possibly could, has led to many very successful and hugely enjoyable weddings. It’s easy to say how good you are at doing your job, however I hope that this is borne out by the positive reviews I’ve received on Google and Facebook.

It has taken time and a lot of hard work to get to where the business is today; I’ve invested in good looking, high quality equipment that is a compliment to any wedding, plus I’m willing to work hard every time to make sure that each event is as good as it possibly can be. Sometimes vintage music goes down well all night; sometimes I start off playing old music and then end up playing party classics to keep everyone happy. Every wedding is very different and each couple wants and needs vary widely. What doesn’t vary is that my own wedding was the best day of my life and I want every couple to share in this feeling.

To me, the very best weddings are the ones where the couple have lots of good ideas and I can make them happen. Having someone jump out of a cake halfway through the night, or playing a sentimental song to make the mother of the bride happy; these are the moments that will be remembered for a lifetime, and these are the moments I’m keen to make happen. Some careful planning beforehand can go a very long way and create a memory that will last forever.

I know that my own skills for running a wedding have improved immensely during this time. I’m very confident in helping each couple plan the timeline for their day and help them to implement it. My confidence on the microphone to announce and introduce each part of the day has improved immeasureably and I’m happy to act as Master of Ceremonies whenever needed; I’m finally at the point where I can freestyle and make jokes!

The Future

This is what has made Vintage Wedding DJ successful so far, and I hope that these skills will grow and develop in years to come. I can honestly say that I love my job; I get to plan and then spend the day with the most beautiful couples and their friends and families. I frequently come away from weddings feeling valued and loved having made new friends, I feel blessed and I am excited about the future. Huge love and thanks to all the couples I have worked with over the past 3 years, it’s been a blast and I have loved every single event.

Fabulous Summer of 2015!

Fabulous Summer of 2015!

It’s been a great summer for Vintage Wedding DJ and our busiest ever. We’ve had the honour of being invited to a whole range of beautiful events, ranging from stunning days at exclusive venues to festival style weddings in hidden locations. Here’s a couple of examples to show what we’ve been up to…

Esther & Justin — Lydbury North

Esther and Justin asked for a wide selection of older classics for their wedding in south Shropshire. Therefore soul, funk, rock & roll and disco was the order of the day.

Here’s a snippet of how the dancefloor and setup looked:

And they said…
“Very very happy with David and his vintage wedding service. Liked the style and vintage theme,  was very professional and helpful, price was right. Would recommend to others!”

Amanda & Alice — Custard Factory, Birmingham

Birmingham wedding

Birmingham-weddingWe were delighted to join the lovely Amanda & Alice for their stunning wedding at the Old Library which is part of the Custard Factory complex. They made the day truly all about them with an eclectic and fun playlist, and they walked down the aisle to a beautiful piece of music written specifically for them by one of the family.

Over the course of the evening we played a diverse mix including electro-swing, rock & roll, 70s, 80s, ska, show tunes and a few current hits. We even got the bar staff dancing with the guests and a whole range of ages on the dancefloor. Great fun for all!

And they said…
“David was really friendly and professional, great communication and listened to our needs. Great range of music and the style really suited us. Lots of our guests said they enjoyed the music too.”

And here’s some other events we’ve been at:

New for 2015… stunning all-white slimline speakers!

New for 2015… stunning all-white slimline speakers!

Now much as we like talking as if it’s only about the music, at Vintage Wedding DJ we are also very concious about style. On a wedding day so much effort goes into making sure that everything looks perfect, from the venue, to the dress, the flowers, the decor and all your guests… why should your entertainment be any different?

As such, we are delighted to announce that we have a new, all-white slimline speaker system to use at all events from now on!

Looks great

No, it looks really great. Did you even notice it in the photo above? What about this one here?

Vintage Wedding DJ Setup

Sounds great

We’ve already used the system at a couple of large style events and we are absolutely delighted with the sound quality. It sounds really clean, with a nice rounded bass sound and is perfect for events of up to 200 people.

The speakers are self contained, and so can be easily moved during an event. Would you like to have music and a microphone for speeches during the wedding breakfast and then for the speakers to be moved into another room for the evenings dancing? This is now a simple change which can be achieved easily and quickly.

The Setup Process

The Setup Process

It’s always an involved process getting setup for an event and so we’ve made a stop-motion video to demonstrate how much work goes in behind the scenes. Strangely this makes it look very quick!!

Venue Uplighters Gallery

Venue Uplighters Gallery

Light your room in style!

The optional extra that we love using the most is our venue uplighters. They stylishly transform any room they’re used in and allow you to match the room colour perfectly to your colour scheme. Later in the evening when the party starts properly the whole room changes colour perfectly in sync with the dancefloor lights and creates a stunning effect.

Still it’s easy to say this, but in this case pictures tell a much better story and so before a recent event we took a selection of photos demonstrating some of the different ways you can use them. Go to Venue Uplighters Gallery and take a look.

Vintage Wedding DJ’s own DJR had the privilege of playing in the Ballroom from 3.00 until 4am at the end of a glorious Saturday night lineup at this years Boomtown Fair. This was the closing set of the evening and so was heavier than a typical wedding set – electro swing, ghetto funk, soul and funk remixes, and drum and bass was the order of the day.

If you would like to hear the music he played you can listen to it below and if you would like to download the mix simply press here.

Polly & Matt @ Crazy Bear

Polly & Matt @ Crazy Bear
Vintage Wedding DJ had a great time recently providing the entertainment for the wedding of Polly and Matt Orton.

Polly&Matt-InvitationThe day was extra special because it marked the couple’s 10th anniversary together and they certainly made sure that they celebrated in style at the incredible ‘Crazy Bear Hotel‘ in Stadhampton, near Oxford. There are few venues that look as good as the Crazy Bear and this is one place where more is most definitely more. The team behind this hotel have worked hard to create a unique venue and the attention to detail throughout is stunning.

Dramatic Entrance

Polly and Matt love the glitz and glamour of the big screen so we agreed that their entrance theme should be the oriental track from the opening credits of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. As they arrived and greeted their guests this transitioned into the Pearl and Dean theme tune, before moving seamlessly into their first dance, ‘What A Difference A Day Made’ by Jamie Cullum.

The couple sparkled and glittered in the limelight as their first dance finished and leading by example, they encouraged all their guests to join us on the dance floor for the finest hour of electro-swing classics. During this part we played remixes of many well known tracks, including Fever, Puttin On The Ritz, In The Mood and Cheek To Cheek; everyone joined in and it filled us with delight.

Cake, birthdays and a Thai feast

Polly and Matt shared their wedding day with their niece’s 12th birthday, so they invited Jay up to help them cut the cake, soundtracked by The Beatles singing ‘Birthday’. Next the Thai buffet was announced, appropriately accompanied by ‘Food Glorious Food’ from Oliver.

Polly Matt DancefloorEveryone paused for food and then the evening commenced with a full dance floor, which few people left. We began with more electro-swing and then progressed towards newer choices; hitting 50’s rock & roll, 60’s classics, soul and motown along the way. As the evening drew on we played their personal favorites and those which had special significance for the couple and their friends. Highlights included a number of songs by The Doors, ‘Tequila’ by The Champs and the Back to the Future version of ‘Johnny B Goode’. The movie theme continued throughout as we played a number of movie studio opening theme tunes between songs.

The night was scheduled to finish at midnight, but the venue staff were amazing and allowed us run over until past 1am. At the end of the night just Polly and Matt, plus a hardcore of their closest friends remained on the dance floor; they certainly made the most of it and selected a personalised soundtrack of party tunes.

Vintage wedding setupThe couple’s final request of the night was ‘The End’ by the Doors which went down a treat and felt very moving. I must admit though, I simply couldn’t resist sneaking one more to end the night on a high – one of their favourite tracks and a party anthem – ‘Jump Around’ by House of Pain. In the wee small hours the party came to a close and with smiles on their faces and a great night’s dancing under their belts, Polly and Matt’s guests drifted off to their rooms.

Overall we have say that it was an incredible night in a stunning venue. The night perfectly demonstrated how the vintage style can be combined with a huge range of modern and dance floor classics, to keep all the guests happy for the whole celebration.

And in their words…

Polly and Matt were kind enough to include this comment as part of their feedback:

“We were both thrilled to have David as the evening’s entertainment  at our wedding. A great mix of tunes delivered in a unique style that was perfect for our theme!”
Polly and Matt Orton, June 2014
